COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

Through the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we will explore the beliefs you have about yourself, the way others treat you, the world around you, your future, and more.  You will benefit from practical steps towards changing these beliefs in order to gain freedom and comfort from routine pain and tension.

Many benefits that come from CBT is the flexibility it allows with focus and time.  Whether you are struggling with a particular issue, like difficulty sleeping or difficulty at work or school, this behavior can be focused on and isolated to allow for faster relief.  Other issues, less specific, such as general sense of worthlessness or pervasive sense of fear, the thoughts/emotions can be the focus of treatment.

Many of my clients shared that they benefit from CBT due to the focus on what they can do now instead of dwelling on events from the past.  While the past is important in understanding what has shaped you, you need help with what you're facing now.

ABOUT ME

Home: Inner_about

As a Long Island native, I've often found myself standing in line at my favorite deli, getting into conversations that lead to learning about people and hearing what they're going through.  I decided to do what I love and what comes naturally to me: listen, connect, express understanding of pain and struggles people go through, and offer different perspectives to ease the discomfort their facing.

I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology at SUNY Old Westbury and my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Nyack College.

IS WHAT I SHARE CONFIDENTIAL?

Yes, with few exceptions.  If you have an active plan to seriously harm either yourself, I would need to contact emergency services in order to seek hospitalization for you.  If you have an active plan to seriously harm someone else, I may notify the potential victim, contact the police, or seeking hospitalization for you.  There are some situations in which I am legally obligated to take action to protect others from harm, even if I have to reveal some information about a client’s treatment. For example, if I believe that a child, elderly person, or disabled person is being abused, I must file a report with the appropriate state agency.

A common question I'm asked by clients is, "What if I say 'I want to kill my (boss, teacher, etc)'" or "What if I say 'I want to kill myself?'"  It can be common to say these things out of sheer frustration/aggravation without intent to actually act on them.  However, in certain cases, there can be people who have these intentions.  The time in therapy welcomes expressing thoughts and feelings that may be misunderstood in most situations, which is why I will assess what you're going through in order for your protection and wellbeing.
